A Double Blessing!

The Hardin babies made their grand entrance into the world on February 6, 2012. Cade Roy Hardin arrived at 1:27am weighing 5 lbs, 10 oz & was 17 inches long. Younger sister, Camryn Nicole Hardin, joined the party at 1:29 am! She weighed 5 lbs, 9 oz. and was 18 inches long.

Both babies went straight to the newborn nursery, and what an amazing blessing that is! Tara, Dan, and big sisters Riley and Morgan, are beyond excited and ready to give these babies so much love!

Tara is doing great and they should all go home Thurs. sometime. I must say it was the most incredible moment when Dan walked through those doors are roughly 2:30am to tell us the news! It was a moment we will never forget!

Can a room really grow? Well, it seems our office has indeed gotten bigger. We spent Sat. and Sun. during the boys' naptime decluttering, cleaning out files, and getting rid of crap. Jason & I both sat in the office going through files one by one. And did I mention I've been wanting to do this for 2 years. Yes, you heard it.. 2 YEARS! It's just gotten away from us, and we've focused on other things. There were at least 4 piles of paperwork and files that needed to be sorted. I should have taken a "before" pic, but I forgot!

Here's the "After" picture. What a lame post this is, but you don't know how HAPPY I am! :)

Tara is Super Woman for carrying these twins as long as she has! She is 34 weeks & 4 days and doing great. Having some contractions here & there, but hoping to keep them cooking a bit longer. Bed rest has certainly helped, and has been the key! She is just a sittin', layin', waitin', and prayin' ! And did I mention she is reaching the "miserable" state as well? I can only imagine!

Praying for a safe & healthy arrival for these precious babies. Will they be boys, girls, or both? We are all so excited to meet them.

I'm thinking Saturday, Jan. 21 is a perfect day!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy 2012! I hope your year ahead is filled with good health, lots of laughter & happiness, & many blessings.

What are your New Year’s resolutions? Let’s admit it.. we all tend to live the same way from day to day life, making very little changes. There’s always room for improvement , right? We’ve all had resolutions like hitting the gym, losing weight, reading more books, eating healthier, seeing more friends, being more organized, spending less money, etc.. But come February, we tend to forget about the resolutions we made. I’m notorious for that. So this year, I thought I’d write down my resolutions on a note card & put them in my closet so I can remind myself of them each day. I’m hoping this helps & I’ll see how I’m doing on them come springtime. ;) And Is it not the best feeling when we accomplish something we’ve worked hard for?

We are so thankful to be surrounded by a wonderful family & amazing friends! Have a TERRIFIC YEAR ahead!

Tis’ the season to see Santa in person & tell him your wishes for Christmas! The boys love when they see a picture of Santa on an ornament, stocking, decoration.. you name it! BUT..to see him in real life is a bit scary!

We definitely captured the “get me away from him” picture that we will show them later & look back and laugh at. :)

P.S.- Is this not a great looking Santa?! He starts growing his beard in May!

Boys will be boys….

We always knew both boys were full of personality, but man.. now they are really FULL of personality at almost 22 months. :) As I was looking through pictures on the camera today, I couldn’t help but think, Wow.. boys sure are wild and do the funniest/craziest things that girls wouldn’t ever think about doing. Some of the latest are… sticking as many fingers as they can in their nostrils and hysterically laughing, running away after bath time to play naked, pulling oranments off the tree and banging them together, pushing their cars in the wall until it makes a hole, jumping off the ottoman and landing on Jason or the floor, and the WORST is still dumping food on the floor. UGH.. After all of this in a days time, MAMA is TIRED! :)

In between all the madness, they do snuggle and read a few books. :) I can’t imagine life any other way, I was truly meant to have boys. I love it.

They love to move furniture to reach light switches.

CLAP your hands! I am one happy mama! I am FINALLY caught up with the boys’ baby books. It has only taken me 20 months, LOL! I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulder & the next page I’ll be doing is for their 2nd birthday. I’ve enjoyed looking back at all of the memories along this journey called parenthood. :)

October was such a fun-filled month with the boys! I can’t believe it came & went so quickly! The saying is so true—time flies when you’re having fun! :)

We went to several pumpkin patches ( I think 5 to be exact!), had a Halloween party at Gram’s house, went to Robyn’s Halloween party, & had a little taste of what trick or treating was all about. They are at such fun ages, it's a blast going to all these places!

19 months already?!

Well, I haven’t done a blog in quite sometime it seems & will get back into the groove starting now! The boys are 19 months & we can’t believe it. Growing & doing new things daily it seems. Their latest is that they are saying new words like door, thank you, outside, snack, bat, & a few more… Along with 19 months comes some attitude & fit throwing as well. We are definitely going to new places & having fun! :)

Jason & I had a wonderful weekend get-away to San Fran last weekend. He was there for work, so I decided to join him on Friday. Thanks to Gram & Grandma & Grandpa for keeping the boys while we went! You are the best!

It was fantastic to get some relief from this heat. The high’s were in the upper 60’s & it was 54 or so at night! Brrrr! I enjoyed wearing jackets & scarves!

We ate some amazing seafood & did some sight seeing!
Saturday was perfect. We rented bikes to ride across the Golden Gate bridge & over to Sausalito to have a beautiful patio lunch overlooking the ocean. Does it get much better than that? I think not. We had an amazing one on one date & he accepted the rose afterwards. (bach. watchers)

1.5 years~18 months~547 days

I’m trying to decide which seems the youngest when you say it?? A year and a half? 18 months? or 547 days? I’m thinking 18 months, so happy 18 months to two precious boys today! I really can’t believe it’s gone by this fast & they are doing so much lately.

They are saying new words like bye bye, hi, ball, dog, bath, etc.. And they are understanding way more than they are saying which is fun to see. Our latest is “Go throw this in the trash” or “go get your shoes”, & they do it! It’s fun to see how much they have changed since day 1. From all those tubes connected & feeding every 3 hours, to them now running through the house & eating 3 normal meals a day is absolutely amazing to me. And I must add that our picky little Landon has turned into quite the eater these days. He’s eating everything in sight & his latest favs are fish, raisins, & sweet potatoes. Ha!

With this ripe old age of 18 months, comes a few fits & full out temper tantrums. We tend to see more from Huddie, but ignoring them & walking away seems to help. It’s just the end of the world when we don’t get our way, isn’t it? ;) They also think it’s fun to open doors, so we’ve had to lock all outside doors.

Needless to say, these have been the greatest 18 months & I cherish each day with these boys. We love watching them learn, grow, & develop into little boys.

We went to Colorado this past weekend for my Grandma’s 90th birthday. What better event to celebrate than that?! She is doing quite well at 90 if you ask me. We had a great time & made lots of memories with relatives. It’s always nice to have a big family gathering & we look forward to the next time!

If you ask me, one is never too young to try a snow cone. ;) It’s definitely one of my favorite childhood memories growing up. We would ride our bikes to the snow cone shop almost daily in our swimsuits! They are definitely the best summer-time treat!

We took the boys to The Snow Cone lady in Frisco & we had a blast! They both decided strawberry was a good flavor. Mom got the usual wedding cake with cream & dad got strawberry/banana with cream.

Key West Trip!

Jason & I had an amazing trip to Key West to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We couldn’t have done this without the help of Gram, Aunt Romy, & Grandma & Grandpa. Everyone tag teamed with helping with the boys & Aunt Romy jumped in for a day when my mom closed on her house. THANK YOU! We had a great time because we knew the boys were in such good hands & we know the boys got spoiled with attention by everyone!

Key West was like paradise. It’s not your “beachy” beach kind of place because the whole island is surrounded by rocks & reef, but it is absolutely beautiful! We relaxed a ton with lots of sipping on foo foo drinks, sitting by the pool, & sleeping in till 9:00 everyday! We went downtown for eating out & shopping & to see all the events on Mallory Square. We rode Jet Ski’s around the island & went parasailing on our last day! It was quite a trip & we definitely recommend going!

Paradise is always a nice break from reality, but it sure is nice to get back to reality & our favorite two little boys. :)

We had a blast the other night with the swing set & water table! The boys could stay out there for hours & we’ve even had a later bedtime because of it. :)

The only way to stay cool this summer is to be in water. Can you believe it’s already 97 out these days? YOWSERS! Otherwise, indoors it is!

We had a farewell party Sunday in honor of Jenna, Clancy, & Tyce moving to Austin this week. We will really miss them & they have become good friends of ours. Our boys just love playing together. But, we are thrilled to take road trips to Austin now!

We love our Great Granddad!

We went to see Granddad on Monday with the boys. It had been several weeks to a month since we had seen him last, so it was a fun visit. He got to see both boys walking & really enjoyed seeing them. It’s hard to believe that Granddad & the boys are 90 years apart! He seems to be doing ok given that he’s 91 & we cherish every visit with him.

We had the boys’ 15 month appt. yesterday & all checked out great! They’ve definitely slowed down in the weight gain department.. hmmmm.. wonder if the constant movin’ & groovin’ has anything to do with it?

We are now moving Landon off of formula & onto Soy milk. We will see how that goes in the next few days. Also, NO MORE BOTTLES. It needed to happen, & the Dr. said to pull the trigger. So, last night they got sippy cups before bed & it worked just fine. Amazing that they are still alive & fine without the bottle. Crazy how that works. ;)

Well, we officially have 2 walkers in our house now. It’s quite busy & fun at the same time. Hudson is still more cautious and slow & Landon is all out fast & a bit clumsy. I counted 3 falls & bumps & a little bloody nose while just at Robyn’s house yesterday! Yowsers! I’m sure it’ll take some time before they totally get the hang of it.

And Jason reminds me that they are boys & will have bruises and bumps daily. :) I actually try not to gasp or react when they fall so that we don’t create “pansies” for boys.. haha!

This week, we also have pointing at things from Hudson, Landon saying bye- bye, & both saying ball. They are LOADS of fun lately!

Extreme Patio Makeover

The past month has been busy with workers putting in a new patio. We decided after 5 years of living here, it’s time to enjoy the outside of our home! We put in a stamped concrete patio, flower bed, trees, & some furniture. We finished planting yesterday & have already been spending our evenings out there. :) The boys already love it!

The boys did their first 5k race on Saturday. They ended up crossing the finish line at the same time, imagine that?! So we aren’t sure who really won.

It was a great charity event supporting brain cancer sponsored by Dr. Pepper. We really enjoyed it & we want to do more in the future!

NICU Reunion

Yesterday was our 2nd year to go to the NICU reunion & see all of the wonderful nurses that took such great care of our boys. We are forever grateful for those nurses helping the boys grow stronger & stronger each day. Here are a few pics from the event.. I think the lens might have been a little dirty bc they seem blurry. Nonetheless, we had a great time visiting the best hospital & staff at Baylor Frisco!

We took the boys last night to the bluebonnets in Plano to take a few pics. We couldn’t get them both to look up at the same time (surprise, surprise) so we decided to try again this morning at 8:00 a.m. The best part is that these bluebonnets were just 5 min. away & we loved that they were up on a big hill.

I must say that I love springtime in Texas & I love these precious boys!

Saturday we went to the Arboretum to take some spring pictures of the boys. Gail & Ernie were kind enough to come along and help us, as well as take the pictures. It sure took all 4 of us with the 4 bags & cart in tow. Wow, kids sure do require a lot of stuff!

So most of you know that Landon WILL not eat fruit and soft things. It’s like he has a texture issue & spits it right out. Well, this morning, I was eating a banana & he crawled right over and opened his mouth to take a bite. He kept opening his mouth & between both he & Hud, the banana was devoured.

Moral of the story: Kids like to do things on THEIR terms. Again, I’m reminded of this. We know again that Landon will do things on his own agenda & I DO KNOW that he can eat fruit!

I had to share because this was some serious business this morning at 3045 Morning Star Dr.

TWO new Epi-pens. Ok, not really proud, but couldn’t think of a better title. We found out last week that the boys are both highly allergic to peanuts. We are now those parents that people are annoyed with because other kids can’t have peanut butter. Sorry.
:(

We got the boys allergy tested due to a few flare ups here & there, and we are sure glad we have this info ahead of time. It sure wouldn’t be fun to learn the hard way! The results come back on a
0-4 scale, with 4 being the most severe. Here is the outcome:

Landon:
Peanut: 4
Egg White: 3
Milk: 2
Wheat: 2
Soy: 2

Hudson:
Peanut: 3
Dog Dander: 3
Cat Dander: 2
Soy: 1

Unfortunately, some of these foods are trial & error to see how they do over time. Some items that they have a mild or moderate allergy to might be fine, but we just have to watch closely. Some things they can outgrow, but probably not the peanuts. We obviously aren’t giving them any peanuts or peanut butter, but the Dr. did say that items packaged on the same truck with peanuts or made with peanut oil are fine. Unless we see a reaction from these foods, we will carry on feeding them things that have been fine all along. For instance, they’ve been eating animal crackers just fine, but the package reads: “this product is packaged on equipment that also packages peanuts and tree nuts”. They haven’t had any reaction, so these are fine to eat. This is good news especially because Landers is so darn picky!

Also, we are thanking daddy for passing down all of his allergies. It’s interesting that Jason is allergic to peanuts on a scale of 2, and can eat peanut butter and peanuts just fine.

So… for us the new black is now called almond butter! Who knows.. maybe we can start a new trend! ;)

We took the boys to get their first haircuts on their birthday. It was much needed for Landon, as he had a mullet in the back. Hudson was just along for the fun & got his cleaned up a bit. The place was Sharkey’s in Frisco & so cute that they had little cars for the kids to sit in. :)

A+ visit

The boys had their one year appt. today & Dr. Newton gave them an A+ on their 12 month report card. Ha! They are doing just fine and Hudson got the ok to move to whole milk. Landon needs to eat a little more food to do that, plus we need to see if he has a dairy allergy. He’s really broken out the last few times with cheese. He will have blood work done tomorrow, (3/2) to find this out. Results come back in 3-7 days. We are so pleased with how they are doing. Here are their stats:

Hudson- Weight- 50-75% (23 lbs, 5 oz)
Height- 50%

Landon- Weight- 10% (19 lbs, 6 oz)
Height- 50%

It’s really crazy that the boys are now 365 days old! It truly does fly by like everyone says. We were sitting on the floor looking at the boys’ preemie diapers & clothes this week, and we just couldn’t believe that they were ever that small. They were both less than 4 pounds, on feeding tubes, extra oxygen, IV’s, & had reflux … and now they are eating food (well one kid is), pulling up, standing, giggling and talking. It truly amazes us in every way. I’m so proud of the progress they have made & it’s been an incredible journey.

We couldn’t have survived this first year without the support and help from family and friends. The first 5 months or so were very challenging, so we appreciate everyone that helped in any way possible. Thank you! We feel so blessed to have these two precious boys as our sons, and we look forward to many more memories ahead!

We went to the park both days this weekend! The weather was amazing & we had a blast. The boys look so grown up to me on the swings! :) We look forward to many more of these park days this spring & summer!

Last Friday when the snow came down, we took the boys out in it again. At least we were able to get outside & not see just ice! Jason also took a break from work and made some snow ice cream. He also thought skiing sounded like a great idea, and I wasn’t too sure about this. It lasted all of 10 min, and he managed to not break any bones. Needless to say, we’ve had a lot of fun! But, like everyone else, we are ready for SPRING!

Alright. Stop. Collaborate and listen… going stir crazy here did I need to mention?

Just like everyone else, we are stuck inside for days on end. It actually hasn’t been that bad, just lots of playin’ and stayin’ in our jammies most days. :0 Jason has been able to work from home all week, which has been nice. I am really glad we went to Gram’s on Monday. I think it’s safe for me to say, we are ready for another outing or two! Come on warmer weather! Hope everyone is staying warm & finding things to do at home.

11 months old! Can someone press pause?

Seriously?! How can the boys already be 11 months old? I don’t really get it. I think time flies faster with kids for sure than it did before! I want to know what we did with our spare time before kids?! The boys seem to keep us plenty busy around here. I keep saying each month “this is the best stage”, so I do know it keeps getting better and better! We love these little munchkins so much!

The boys are really so much fun & full of personality! Landon is now setting records for the fastest crawler. :) He’s totally taken off and now cruising around couches, pulling up on barstools, etc.. We have had to put locks on the office doors now so that he can’t cause trouble in there. And we put up a gate into the playroom so that we can play in one room & have some sanity. Hudson is still an army crawler, but manages to get all over the place too. I got my first kiss from Hudson last week & it melted mommy’s heart! Landon has learned to clap now too & claps at everything. They both giggle & play with each other, and it’s the best thing EVER.

Hudson has gotten good at this eating food thing & trying all sorts of new things. He’s such a good eater & loves food just like mommy. Landon (daddy, jr.) on the other hand, has not taken to the finger foods that great. If it has anything to do with carbs, he’s all about it. Fruits and Veggies.. he’ll take a rain check! So, we will just keep trying it with Landon and hopefully he will come around.

Developmental follow up

We took the boys back to the developmental pediatric place where they first went when they were 6 months old. We go every 4 months to check gross motor, fine motor, and language skills due to the fact that they were preemies. Our specialist, Holly, does several tests on the boys to see if they are on track or delayed. The boys did great, and we feel good about how far they have come! They seem to be a little delayed verbally, but that will come in time. It’s been fun & amazing to see the changes they have made since the day they were born. Here are some percentiles as to where they are right now according to their real age, not adjusted.

Hudson- head- 90%
weight- 50-60%
height- 10%

Landon- head- 50-75%
weight- 10%
height- 10%

Our new year resolution is posting to the blog more often. Ok, that isn’t actually our resolution, but it should be. Promise, we will try to be better. And now that it is 2011, we just realized our boys will be a year old in no time at all. Wow, time flies when you are having fun.

At a party last month, Landon loved playing in a box. Grandpa showed up last week with Landon’s very own party wagon. The boys enjoyed getting pulled around the living room in it.

Now that Christmas is down, we are loving all of the space we have to play. And better yet, we are loving our new toys!

Our boys turned 10 months on Christmas Eve. It is amazing how fast time is going. They are getting so big and starting to do so much. Landon has improved his crawling and is now pulling up. Hudson has started to figure out the crawling stuff as well. He is more of an army crawl, but he can definitely get across the living room floor if we leave our phone there.

We stopped by the O’s for a little Christmas celebration. It was good to get out for the first time in two weeks. Just wish our boys felt better.

We were able to get a quick photo shoot accomplished with their new hats. Thanks grandma for fixing them to fit the boys heads.

It was the night before Christmas and all through the house… and Landon wanted to play. He decided to stand up in his crib and laugh, and laugh some more.

Christmas morning was fun. :) Hudson decided to fake (ok, we probably wasn’t faking) an illness at 5 a.m. I still think he was using it as a ploy to see what Santa brought him. Despite having a cold, Bronchilitis and who knows what else, the boys enjoyed opening gifts and playing with their new toys.

Not sure he will be escaping the headlock of grandpa.

We had a a special visit from the North Pole… and the boys seemed to really like him. Landon even got a few tugs on the beard to make sure it was real.

We stop, we think – hmm, where in the world has the year gone. We can’t believe our boys are now 9 months old. It is crazy how fast time goes. Hudson is now 20 pounds, 10 ounces. And Landon is 17 pounds, 10 ounces. They are about the same height. We’ll know for sure when they measure them at their doctors appointment tomorrow.

We decided to put up Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving. After getting over the neighbors laughing at us, it was all good.

And we now have four!

The boys absolutely love the train.

Playing is our favorite hobby these days. And we are good at it. Landon looks like he wanting to be called upon, but he is actually trying to reach the tree.

While mom planted flowers, Landon played. And laughed.

Justin (my college roommate) and his family stopped by to visit.

Karen (from my office) brought over her three year old twin girls to meet the boys. It was so fun to see them interact. Kristen and Kaitlyn were also very nice to give the boys a basketball hoop. Thank you.

For Turkey Day, we went to my parents house. It was a good time with the family. We all wrote what we were thankful for on a leaf and then read them at dinner. As you could imagine, Hudson said he was most thankful for food. :)

We went to see the Hardin’s new home. The boys love the playroom. If they could only walk, I’m sure they would have loved it even more. And as an added bonus, we got to see Mark (Dan’s brother), Kim and Hadley.

And I turned my head for two minutes, and mom is allowing Hudster to play with Barbie. Don’t worry, we had a long talk on the way home. I think I took care of it.

Landon is obsessed with computers. So much that he tried crawling from the couch to the ottoman.

We made a trip to see Granddad. I just love the photos of the boys holding his hand. There are 90 years between them.

As you can see in the pics, their personalities are starting to come out. Check out these photos of them wrestling just before bedtime. Landon might be smaller, but he uses his speed and agility to counter attack. I see many more episodes of this in our future!

The last few weeks have been amazing. The boys are growing up so quick and their personalities are starting to show more and more. Hudson hit the 20 pound mark, and his brother is only a couple pounds behind. Hard to believe these guys were in the sub 4 pound range only 8 months ago. Dr. K is going to be so happy when she sees them for their 9 month appt in a couple weeks.

The boys had so much fun this past week celebrating Halloween. We went to several parties, a parade, and they enjoyed wearing their costumes several times. The boys had a blast, and they can’t wait to go trick or treating when they get older. :)

We're are having the time of our lives with these two precious boys. Words cannot express how much joy they bring us daily. They have grown by leaps & bounds since they arrived, and it's almost unbelievable how far they've come! The last few weeks, they have been so funny. We love to just sit and watch them play. Landon is our energetic, curious, happy, and giggly little boy. He is so ticklish and his laugh is contagious! And Huddie would rather sit back, take it all in, and just hang out on mama's lap with a smile. He's so sweet and cuddly. Both are such opposites, and it has been fun seeing their personalities come through.

Our first pumpkin patch!

We took the boys to their first pumpkin patch on Tuesday. We got a few good pictures, but may have to go back for a 2nd photo shoot. The boys had a hard time looking at the camera because of the sun and then halfway through our tour, Huddie turned into a fussy bucket. Needless to say, it was still fun and the boys also got to see their friend Tyce!

This past weekend, The Johnston family came in town & we loved every minute of it! Jake was walking/running everywhere & just full of smiles and personality. The boys loved having an older dude to look up to. Jason & I realized we have a lot of toddler proofing to do around here. ;) It was good for us to see Jake getting into things so we know what to put away. We have a few months before all that though.. whew!

We had fun (despite Tech losing) Sat. night with friends! The Pickens family and The Olschewskys came with their kiddos & we had a blast.

And I’m not sure on the new hair color.. I’m gonna give it a few weeks to see what I think. I’ll probably be going back to blonde, but wanted to give brown a try.

The boys decided to wrestle, WWE style. Huddie thought he had the upper hand, but it looks like Landon took control and pinned Hudson with ease.

Our 6 Month Doctor Visits Along with a Few Extras

The boys are continuing to do great… and growing. We had our 6 month check up with Dr. K. We are now on the charts and catching up to normal 6 month olds. Ok, maybe not officially catching up, but we are headed in the right direction. Hudson is now in the 25th percentile for weight, and Landon is in the 5th percentile. Here are a few photos from the Dr. visit.

Too much excitement, Hudson decided to take a nap.

And because we have preemie’s, we also get to visit a developmental specialist. After an hour and half of playing with blocks, rings and mirrors, we found out our boys are right on track if not ahead. Huddie and Landers are both at 5 months, 1 week for Gross Motor Skills (they were only hoping for them to be at 4 months) and Hudson is at 5 months for Fine Motor Skills, and Landon is at 6 months.

If I knew what those Cheerio’s were, I probably would have picked them up. Landon is walking! Ok, not really.

And all this exercise and tests wore me out. Nap time.

And to celebrate their 6 month birthday, we had some cupcakes. Ok, Mom and Dad had some cupcakes, but the boys posed for a picture or two for good measure.

After cake, we stopped by mom and dad’s to say hi and hang out in their backyard. And when you have a new camera, it typically leads to some more pictures.

And part of our 6th month appointment, the doctor told us to start rice cereal to get them used to the spoon/eating. And let it begin…
