The first night we arrived, Hudson and Landon were both hooked up to 6 different devices. Today, we got rid of our third device, the cannula. This is the device that has been providing them a constant flow of air into their lungs. It is not so much helping them breathe as it is reminding them to breathe. This doesn’t mean we haven’t eliminated the breathing issues just yet, but today they felt it was time to give it a try. Hopefully they do well for the next 24 hours and they won’t have to put them back on.
On a sad (but happy) note, we had to say goodbye to our friends. This is the couple that we lived across the street from for 2 years when we first moved to Little Elm. Haven’t seen them since 2007, but happen to run into them at the NICU on our first day. We were the only three babies in there. Carter was 32.5 weeks along at birth and just 5 days earlier than H & L. It has been really great to reconnect with them. And more importantly, it was nice to have a friendly voice near by during the trying times over the past 22 days. We wish them the very best on their first night at home and can’t wait for a play date in the near future.
